At Velumanoharan Arts and Science College for Women, all our academic programs are conducted
under the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS). This system is an instructional framework designed
to cater to the evolving needs of students, providing them with flexibility and a more
student-centric approach to learning. The CBCS enables students to choose from a wide array of
elective courses, tailor their academic journey based on individual interests and career
aspirations, and earn credits for the courses they complete.
The CBCS system aligns with the rapid developments in higher education and meets the quality
assurance standards expected in a globalized and liberalized educational environment. It
promotes interdisciplinary learning and offers students the opportunity to develop a diverse
skill set, enhancing their employability and academic versatility.
As an institution affiliated with Alagappa University, VMASCW adheres strictly to the syllabus
prescribed by the Tamil Nadu State Council for Higher Education (TANSCHE). This ensures that we
maintain high standards of academic excellence and provide our students with a robust and
comprehensive education that meets both national and international benchmarks. The CBCS system,
integrated with TANSCHE guidelines, is a key element in fostering academic growth and preparing
students for future challenges.
At Velumanoharan Arts and Science College for Women, the Continuous Internal Assessment (CIA)
system plays a crucial role in evaluating the academic progress of students throughout each
semester. This system ensures that students are continuously assessed, enabling them to improve
their performance and understand their academic standing at regular intervals.
- Two Internal Assessments: Each semester includes two internal assessments, which are
strategically spaced to gauge the students' grasp of the course content. The results of these
assessments are communicated to the parents, keeping them informed and involved in their child's
academic progress.
- Monitoring and Support: The academic performance of each student is carefully monitored by the
Student Counsellor, ensuring that any learning challenges are identified early. For students who
may require additional assistance, special coaching classes are regularly conducted to help them
catch up and improve their understanding. This dedicated approach ensures that all students,
especially slow learners, receive the necessary support to excel in their academic journey.
The CIA system fosters continuous learning and improvement, ensuring that students remain on
track for academic success.
At Velumanoharan Arts and Science College for Women, university examinations are held at the end
of each semester to assess students' understanding and mastery of their courses. The examination
schedule is as follows
- Odd Semesters: Examinations for odd semesters take place in October/November.
- Even Semesters: Examinations for even semesters are conducted in April/May.
If a student fails to pass in any course(s), they are allowed to appear for the failed course(s)
in the subsequent examination cycle, either in October/November or April/May, depending on the
semester.
